Re: Need help deciding between starwind and equallogic

Interesting debate. The SSD performance is currently stunted. The lower cost platforms are attaching the devices to traditional SATA/SAS controllers which limits them to the controllers ASIC and PCIe bus. What is the point or value of spending the $ to be bottle necked by the controller. In addition...

We have existing drives with actives shares. We were looking for a way the present the current drives for iSCSI and replicate to an outside target.

Re: Need help deciding between starwind and equallogic

The other post on using enterprise hardware is a good choice. DELL and HP both offer 2U servers that old 12 drives and decent SAS RAID controllers. Now that near line SAS drives are readily available, you can mix drive sizes in a server or storage node as mentioned above. Near line SAS drives are 7....

RAID 1 with FC drive

The description of Starport appears to allow for a mirror of a drive connected by FC to an iSCSI target. I have not been able to find a way to select the "local" FC drive to add it to a RAID 1 configuration. Any other documentation on how to mix the drive types for the RAID configuration?
