Re: XenServer handling of StarWind HA failure

Hi Arthurr, I'm sorry the configuration isn't working as expected for you. Few comments to add regarding the HA Targets availability: 1. Both targets are active in our design, so if one fails - it should be an MPIO switch and not a second target becoming active. 2. It looks like XenServer is not re-...

Re: Maximum Performance in 2-Node-HA-Cluster

RAID preference depends on required performance and capacity. Need IOPS - go for RAID10, Need Capacity - RAID5. As for LSFS - 2-3 times is the maximum possible number. Typical 65/35 Read/Write workload doesn't cause more than 1.5 overhead. This allows to get a hybrid array with flash features for ~$...

Re: Maximum Performance in 2-Node-HA-Cluster

- Is a redundant 10 GbE-Connection sufficient as sync-connection, or would there be a benefit through 40 or 100 GbE Cards? Redundant 10 GbE and 1x 1 GbE is sufficient. 10 GbE used for sync & iSCSI connections, 1 GbE - Heartbeat link - In this setup: should I use a standard (thick-provisioned) o...

Re: Maximum Performance in 2-Node-HA-Cluster

Hi KPS, That's definitely doable. So for 60K IOPS @4 TB you'll probably need something like 6x 800 GB SSDs or 11x 400 GB SSDs. 6 SSDs should bring you to ~55-65K IOPS and 11 SSDs will definitely do more than that. NVMe is not necessary at these speeds. One more thing you need is 10 GbE redundant con...

Re: Virtual SAN Free - questions on server

Hi guys, So there is a trick in the Hyper-V (no-gui version) of Windows: you can use StarWind Management GUI, you just need to install the Management Console on your laptop (Windows Vista - Win10 supported) or deploy our web management interface (download here: https://www.starwindsoftware.com/custo...

Re: Starwind with Huawei Tecal ES3000 low performance

Hi! As far as I see from our CRM you should've received a quote for the update yesterday. Please PM me if that's not the case and I'll take from there. In the meantime +1 to answers above - 6K IOPS means something is seriously broken. I'd recommend to get the latest version as well as one of our eng...

Re: Will StarWind Work with ESXi

Hi Stanj, Using RAID10 is a recommendation for an all-spindle array. All-flash can be a RAID6 since the performance penalty is not so noticeable with Flash drives. As for the individual drives, we're fine with that. The question is whether it delivers sufficient performance for the VM you'll be runn...

Re: Write issues on v8 (currently 7774)

Community update:
Removing the LSI adapter from the equation and connecting the disks directly to the MB results in expected performance results.
We currently suspect internal alignment issues in the LSI controller causing these issues.

Re: Write issues on v8 (currently 7774)

Quick community update.
We're currently investigating the issue with FLAT image performance issue.
Suspecting alignment issues causing performance drops on small block sizes.
Either me or OP will provide an update as soon as we get more details.

Re: How to mount physical disk

Hi Thierry,
StarWind is only able to take exclusive ownership of a disk which is not used by the host OS.
If you disk has a letter assigned or is used by any of the host OS applications you won't be able to export it using the "physical disk" option
