Re: After the time change, sync channel dropped and iscsi connec

Update for anyone running Intel 10gb nics for the sync channel. We were running two direct connections in a team type of "Adapter Fault Tolerance" with one nic active and the other nic in standby. This teaming is what was causing the servers to crash. We took away the team and are running ...

Re: Eagerly awaiting 5.7

Do you have an update on when 5.7 will be available for general release?

Re: After the time change, sync channel dropped and iscsi connec

By "Good" are you saying the proposed changes from Dell are okay implement and won't conflict with StarWind? I am not sure what Dell is refering to about the iscsi settings. They did say that it may be fine but it is not a setup that they are used to seeing. Can we do a remote session with...

Re: After the time change, sync channel dropped and iscsi connec

Dell is indicating that the issue is most likely with TOE being enabled on the Intel 10Gb nics. Before doing what they recommend I want to make sure nothing will impact StarWind; especially the commands from the elevated command prompt. Dell's recommendations are to do the following: Step 1. Install...

After the time change, sync channel dropped and iscsi connec

Good Afternoon, moments after the time change on Sunday, our 10 Gigabit sync channel was dropped and our iSCSI connections lost. Errors compounded from there and both servers self-instructed a reboot. Because both servers rebooted at approximately the same time, our HA datastores were both thrown ou...

LUN Size

Is it safe to have a LUN or multiple LUNs fully take up the size of the disk Volume? Or is it best practice to leave some space on the diak volume similiar to the recommendation that a VM take up no more than 80% of the space in a LUN?

Re: VLAN CONFIGURATION

Aitor - Thank you for the reply, you are always a wealth of knowledge. As a follow up to your post, I am using dedicated iSCSI switches. To clarify your comment I don't need to use VLAN tagging at the StarWind and VM nics but should establish VLANs at the switch? Or do I just rely on the IP addressi...

Re: VLAN CONFIGURATION

hixont, thank you for your reply

Constantin, I am confused to why you have this Technical Paper "StarWind iSCSI SAN Software: Implementing NIC Teaming on a StarWind Machine". When would nic teaming be used?

Re: VLAN CONFIGURATION

As a followup to the answer to question 1. "Both HA nodes should have NIC to both VLANs " - Can I have teamed nics to each VLAN?

VLAN CONFIGURATION

I would like confirm that I have setup my StarWind servers correctly for iSCSI traffic to maximize performance. Current configuration is: 3 Hosts running VMware ESXI vSphere 4.1, with each host having two 1GB iSCSI connection; 1 connection to VLAN 1 on switch 1 and the other connection going to VLAN...

Re: Hardware Recommendations

Aitor, Thank you for the detailed response and recommendations. You are correct that I already have the MD1000s and I picked them up when Dell had some very aggressive pricing of less than half of list price. I chase RAID 50 based on what I saw Dell recommending for their Equalogic SAN implementatio...

Hardware Recommendations

I am configuring two Dell T710 servers with Microsoft Server 2008 Standard x64 to run StarWind HA in an enterprise environment. We have three Dell R610 servers running VMware ESXi with each server licensed with Microsoft Windows 2008 Datacenter for unlimited VMs. Currently we are operating 30 VMs; f...

sdelete and defrag on high availability virtual disks

Are there any issues with running sdelete and defrag on virtual disks with image file devices using high availability. The virtual infastructure we are using is VMware ESXi 4.1 with guests running Windows 2003 or 2008. Will both the primary and partner image files be optimized if I run sdelete and d...

Log File Too Large

The current log file is 8.6GBs and growing. I only have 1GB of free space on my C: drive and I am worried about running out space and having the server crash. Can I copy the log file to the D: drive and then delete it from the C: drive?
