iSCSI Target for Virtual SQL-Server

I have two virtual servers for my test environment (Guest operating system is Windows Server 2008 R2) I want to install SQL2008 on these servers and I need a second partition as data-drive for SQL which should be an iSCSI-Target. My iSCSI Target Server (Starwind V5) has an external SCSI storage syst...

I have some questions about connecting SCSI-Tapes with iSCSI I installed one server with 6 SCSI Tape-Drives attached to it, Starwind Software as iSCSI Target and ARCServe 12.5 as backup solution Now I have two other ARCServe servers I want to connect to this starwind server simultanously (for Disk t...

Re: latest Build

It would be nice if customers will get their own download area with account and password like other software providers do.
Currently the only way to get the software is to subscribe the trial version once and once again.
And sorry to say that this is not the up-to-date version.

Re: Image creation Time

Both oportunities (Sync or Clear) last the same long time (3-4 hours for 100GB).
With Version 4 I do not have such a problem. This is only in V5

Image creation Time

I am testing V5 and have V4 installed on my production servers. With V4 creating an image (normal or Raid-1) is very simple and fast because you have the possibility to fill new files with zeros or not. With V5 creating any kind of synchronizing images (HA or Raid-1) will last a incredible long time...

Re: Images locked while Complete Sync

Today I had a Hyper-V crash because I had to shut down the secondary server (we havd to power off the USV in our second location) When the secondary server came up again after 2 hours the primary server locked the images and it was not possible to do a fast sync (only complete sync which failed for ...

Re: Upgrade Problems V4 to V5

So that means if I want to upgrade from V4 to V5 and use the High Availibility I have to have twice harddisk space on my storage server - one part for my "old" images and one to create new HA ones and copy.

Re: Images locked while Complete Sync

So what is the best way for creating a new HA image. If you choose clear disk the images are filled with zeros and this will last a long time depending on the size of the files (i.e. 55 hours for 1.8TB). I remenber in V4 you had the possibility to choose filling in with zeros ore not. If you choose ...

Images locked while Complete Sync

There is one big problem with V5 comparing to other mirroring software products. I f you create a new HA image normaly you have to choose "clear virtual disk". After you have finished installing the images the server starts a complete sync between primary and secondary server. Until the sy...

Upgrade Problems V4 to V5

I had two clusters (one File and one with Hyper-V) connected to an iSCSI Target using Starwind V4 as iSCSI-Target-Software. I got the newest build 210 of Starwind V5 enterprise HA unlimited and wanted to upgrade my Storage Servers to this new version for HA. After upgrading the software to V5 (I too...

Basic vs Dynamic Disk

Is it a problem to create HA-images on spanned Volumes on the Starwind target server (maybe performance or security) I have an elder Storage Server with SCSI-Raid Controller which can only address a maximum of 2TB for one LUN So I have to create two LUNS - one with 2TB and the rest with 1.5TB - all ...

Re: V5 HA Failover and MSCS

I know it is a problem of W2003 becaus the Quorum model is single point of failure. I searched the last days on www to find some hints to solve this problem but did not find any solution. The problem in that case is that the cluster becomes aware of the MPIO path changes from primary to secondary Se...

V5 HA Failover and MSCS

I have two HP Servers (ML370) with SCSI Storages (MS500G2) attached acting as iSCSI Targets. Starwind V5.5 (Beta) is installed on both servers. Two HP servers (DL360) with MS Windows 2003 Ent. R2 (incl SP2) have MS iSCSI Initiator (last release) installed and are configured as MS Cluster All servers...
