Disk on AOE shows as failed. Disk was working but then in STARPORT it shows failed. Is this a physical issue? Do i need to reboot? any way to recover?

Is there any way to trick windows into seeing a AOE device as a removable device? Problem is my backup software is not designed to treat locally attached disks as media that can be removed. So if I could make an aoe disk look like a USB attached or removable disk it would be VERY helpful.
