Installing 5.3 requires Microsoft iSCSI Service???

When installing 5.3 I get the message "Microsoft iSCSI service is required. Please install MS iSCSI Initiator to proceed with installation." Is this new? I don't ever recall needing this before.

Re: Please create sticky thread for new versions w/release notes

I'm not trying to be a rebel or anything, I just think this information should be easily accessible, so bear with me! Here are the release notes I found. For some reason the release notes for 5.5 are in the 5.2 installer so that section may change when it actually is released. === StarWind iSCSI SAN...

Re: Please create sticky thread for new versions w/release notes

You don't seem to understand how critical an update is in the real business world where we have production environments to manage. Right now the only version that I am able to download is 5.2 as I don't see any other way to download previous versions. So before we will be comfortable taking a chance...

Re: Please create sticky thread for new versions w/release notes

What about 5.2, is there anywhere where we can find the release notes? What bugs were fixed and what features were added?

Please create sticky thread for new versions w/release notes

I found out from a random thread that 5.2 was released. Can someone please make a sticky thread that has each version with the release notes and a link to the download? Should be simple enough to do and it will go a long way to informing us users as to what bugs have been fixed and what features hav...

File I/O error #5 when attempting to convert an img file.

I'm getting "File I/O error #5" when attempting to convert an img file. The img file was previously used in an HA configuration. Anyone know what this error means?

Just wanted to add that in the first instance I mention, I found that if you click the help button there is a clear description of what each option does.

Re: Starwind 5 HA failback

Amen! There should be the option to choose auto-synchronize and there should be alerting and logging on any errors (similar to a RAID card's alerting).

Clarification needed on the semantics of synchronization!

I have a big gripe about the HA feature which should be relatively easy to resolve as it's really just a matter of clarity! To syncronize an existing .img to a new HA partner you get this screen: http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/6607/starwind001.jpg The wording is not exactly clear on which direct...

Re: One large iSCSI target or multiple small ones?

Thank you for your input on this. Let's narrow down the scope of this question since at the time of this writing StarWind Enterprise has a fairly defined target customer base. Their solution is great for SMBs in regards to features and pricing, and in my opinion they are a perfect backend for VMware...

Re: One large iSCSI target or multiple small ones?

I'd like to resurrect this thread as I think some of the answers given over-simplified the question. I've done some reading on this and I'm not sure what my stance is on this as I've read arguments going both ways. My take on this question is that one big target makes it easy to manage, but manageme...

Re: Poor speed so far on new servers...

Good news! I've tested a beta version of 5.0 and the speed is much improved over 4.2 in my setup. I will post full results once the final build is released to the public in a few days.

Re: Poor speed so far on new servers...

FYI: I was told by a StarWind rep today that I/O caching will most likely not be included in the 5.0 release and that we may have to wait until a subsequent 5.x release. But we'll know soon enough in about a week, so take this with a grain of salt for now. Either way as soon as I can get a copy of 5...

Re: Poor speed so far on new servers...

So I tested the exact same setup with some of the StarWind competitors and found that as is the systems in my lab are able to hit much higher speeds. I'm not going to go into details here since this is the Starwind forums, but one of the products I used acheived incredible throughputs and really mad...

Re: Configuration Questions

Justin, In my 2 weeks of testing so far I haven't been able to acheive an agregated throughput across multiple NICs but I've been testing on VMware you may have a different experience. At one point I had 4 NICs teamed on both sides but I could never break the ~100MB/sec barrier per I/O event. I expe...
