That's alright. As long as the features are coming. :)

Re: Data Replication Between Targets

Maybe RAID1 over iSCSI volumes would work for Brandon? Yes I thought of that and have played with the idea. My concern is placing all the data replication responsibilities on the initiators themselves, plus managing and monitoring. I'd much rather have the targets themselves replicate. One service ...

Data Replication Between Targets

What is the status on being able to replicate between targets? Example: 12 published volumes on one target acting as the active target for several initiators. A second target with real-time copies of those same 12 published volumes. Preferably I'd like to see the option to specify separate interface...

Valery, I found my problem and I feel foolish for not realizing it at the time. The lab box I've been testing on only had a single host license loaded on it, Doh! With the config file set to listen on 0.0.0.0 and with a license file for two hosts I can in fact connect from two separate segments thro...

Multiple Adapters in the Target

Is it possible to run a target system with multiple interfaces connected to separate segments? Example: Int 1 - 192.168.0.10 - Internal Host iSCSI Network Int 2 - 192.168.1.10 - External Host DMZ iSCSI Network Here is what I'm seeing. With Starwind configured to listen on 0.0.0.0 I can make connecti...

DJ_Datte:

Thanks for the suggestion. The flat file fixed the problem.
I wrote 300GB of data and there was practically no fragmentation on the target. I made sure to defrag the empty flat file prior to writing any data.

I should note that some colleagues have been testing a similar target setup but have been using WinTarget (String Bean) instead of StarWind. They have reported very little fragmentation during long data writes to an image file on the array. I have not witnessed every detail personally but it sounds ...

Target Disk Fragmentation

I'm experiencing a pretty severe issue with fragmentation during large/long file copies from an initiator. Scenario: Target System - Starwind 2.6.3 3.6TB RAID5 - (11) 400GB - 3ware 9500S-12 1.5TB Sparse Image Initiator System - MS Initiator 1.06 Copying from external 250GB HDDs through the iSCSI con...

Thanks guys, 2.6.3 works fine and the image shows up as 1.5TB on the initiator.

Max image file size publishable?

I'm using 2.6.1 and created a 1.5TB (1500GB) file with mksparse and published it. On a W2K3 server using the MS Initiator 1.06 the published device only mounts as a 1023GB disk. I also tried the 2.6.1 version of Starport and achieved the same result. Is this a limitation of StarWind or the Initiator...

Image file to HDD transfer

Is there a way to take an image file created with mksparse and write that to a physical hard drive in a recovery situation? Example: You create a 20GB .img file - "example.img" You publish this .img file - "Example.iscsi.image" An initiator subscribes to the image and writes data...

I just ordered a copy of 2.6.1 since my trial period has expired.
I'll post the log file once I get the license for the newer software.

StarWind and Cisco Network Boot

Has anyone tried Cisco's Network Boot software with StarWind? Has anyone gotten it to work? I've been messing around with getting the PXE boot loader to work but I haven't had much luck. :( The PXE file loads, the initiator get fed all the necessary information (as far as I can tell) it tries to log...
