San and nas feature set

Can San and nas based on Linux do auto tiering and global dedup or is that something that is only supported by vsan?

I tried creating a pool on San and nas but the options in the web portal are super basic. Also I am using arrays configured with hardware raid and the raid adapter is obscuring the disk type. Is there any way in the product to change the disk type from HDD to SSD?

Ok I think I understand now. Starwind doesn't natively support tiering but relies on storage spaces to do the work. It also appears you no longer support dedup which is a bummer.

StarWind auto tiering is not available for StarWind CVM.
However HCA users can take advantages of using SSDs as caching.
Dedupe and compression on XFS level should be back in builds to come. Stay tuned!

I don't really want caching. I want block level tiering with ram for cache. Dedup would just be nice to have.

Hi,

Thank you for your update. Dedupe should be there really soon.
Please see more on caching https://knowledgebase.starwindsoftware. ... rinciples/. Caching that I was speaking about https://www.starwindsoftware.com/resour ... y/caching/ (you can reach out to support if you would like to hear more about its benefits in the appliances).

I have seen some reference to native tiering in starwind back in 2017 that was in testing and roadmap for release. Was that scrapped?

To my knowledge, it is not available now and, sadly, I am not sure if there are plans to bring it alive.
