Re: Service Crash

You'll definitely need to provide more information (I'll save you time waiting for Starwind guys to ask you). Network Diagram of your setup? Single system or 2-node or 3-node or 2-node + async? What kind of drives? In what kind of RAID setup? What kind of RAID controller (hardware/software/etc)? How...

Re: Dell R620 2012r2 with Hyper-V questions

I think one of the only reasons someone says to buy identical hardware; is that you can leverage parts replacements. But as far as identical hardware: no. If you want the same performance; sure. But you don't need performance off your async storage system; as it's just there for restoration purposes.

Re: Asynchronous WAN replication

I have (had) WAN Async replication setup for testing out of a production system (just a 20GB image for testing purposes). The "same subnet" is not required; you are correct. You will have to check the box at the bottom of the network replication window to allow for differing subnets; but i...

Re: Hyper-V Virtual SAN NIC Configuration

Hey there. Read up on this document: it includes a diagram for network setups. I don't use switches (as 10gb switches add enormous cost); and have the systems directly connected. http://www.starwindsoftware.com/styles-v2/pdf/technical_papers/StarWind_HA_Hyper-V_6.0.pdf It will answer most questions;...

Re: Dell R620 2012r2 with Hyper-V questions

We had the same issue with the client; RAID 10 just killed too much space. So we've done RAID6; but that is with 21 disks in an array; hot-spare and predictive failure replacement enabled. As to the SFP+ cables; you'll have to check Intel data sheets about what cables they support. This is the only ...

Re: Dell R620 2012r2 with Hyper-V questions

You should definitely have a hot spare drive, and make sure to set your H710 (don't use the H310, you are correct there) for Predictive Failure Replace = True so that you don't ever rebuild your array with an actual bad drive; but only with a predicted bad drive. 1.2TB drive rebuilding can take a bi...

Re: Dell R620 2012r2 with Hyper-V questions

The X520 is a great card and I have not heard or read anyone having issues. I use the Brocade BR1020 DP 10GBe and direct connect the two T620s' directly to each other. It works great. As to your setup: 4 x 300GB 15k SAS = 1.2TB raw storage? So if you RAID10; you'll end up with 600GB usable; which is...

Re: How to use L2 cache with VMWare?

I would pass it through myself. My StarWind's are not virtual though; so I don't know the potential performance difference between VMDK on Datastore supplied to the VM or just supplying the raw drive to the VM for native use. Here's a post on VMWare from v5.1 that suggests the difference is negligib...

Re: Slow Performance HyperConverged Setup on VMware vSphere

Also, if you turn on Level 2 cache, disable it by commenting it out of the configuration. Level 2 cache has weird performance issues (some times it's near 100%, other times I get only 25%).

Re: StartWind Service not found on host <Server Name>

Any reason (other than you have it) you are using Server 2003 R2 Enterprise? http://www.starwindsoftware.com/system-requirements does not list 2003 R2. This may be the reason.

Re: create a replica partner

I believe this started in version 7354 (and the mini-version right before 7354, but not 7145/6884). 7145/6884 did not exhibit this behavior.

I have not tested the most recent LSFS beta build yet.

Re: 2 hyperv nodes and 2 starwind nodes HA VM Migration prob

I echo that with both VSphere (5.5U1/U2) and Hyper-V 2008 R2 or 2012 R2; StarWind v8 (not v6) works for HA and failover. After lot of test we concluded.. Starwind HA not usable for failover cluster system. After one of two nodes is fail with VM on HA storage, migration failed with '0x80048007' or '0...

Remove and re-add the servers to the console. This will fix the invalid partner info error (or should).

As far as I know, this is a bug in all v8 builds (up to 7354).

Can StarWind support confirm?

Re: HA storage with L2 cache and Invalid partner info error

Yea. This is definitely a product where you have to : 1) read all the whitepapers (from oldest to newest). 2) read all forum posts; including older ones 3) communicate with support@starwindsoftware.com to verify everything that might still be questionable in your own mind. They do sticky some stuff ...
