Re: Fibre Channel

Hi,

If you are going to store info on these devices, then Windows can handle this.

But clients can not be connected via FC and we do not plan to add FC support unfortunately.

Re: RAID 10 and Thick vs. RAID 6 and LSFS

Windows still has its own VSS provider  Deduplication reduces the size of LSFS device, but actually LSFS image may occupy a lot of additional space, because of snapshots and its architecture. http://knowledgebase.starwindsoftware.com/explanation/lsfs-container-technical-description/ Please try...

Re: Hardware VSS Provider and Veeam

Could you please clarify what type of image files do you use?

I had to be more accurate because StarWind VSS provider can be used with backup software but only if this is LSFS/Async.

Re: Storage Spaces vs Raid 6

Hi You are welcome to use 112GB of RAM for L1 cache, but ensure, that 16GB is enough for OS. Since we recommend that end user uses write-through caching for L2 and your usage is primarily writes, then SSDs could be waste of money. Yes, you can run your backup software on top of the 3rd VSAN. Here yo...

Re: Hardware VSS Provider and Veeam

Hi Jeff,

Please do not try to use StarWind VSS Hardware provider. It is for internal use only (LSFS, Async Replication) and it should not be used for another purposes.

Re: RAID 10 and Thick vs. RAID 6 and LSFS

Hi, What if I advise you to use all your spinning disks in RAID0 configuration, since you are going to use StarWind that ensures redundancy? Pros: fast like hell 20TB usable space more than enough RAM for L1 cache Cons: - LSFS was designed for low cost HDDs, when workload is mostly shifted to the CP...

Hi,

Please follow this tech paper: http://www.starwindsoftware.com/styles- ... ctices.pdf

Long story short: you are welcome to use NIC teaming, but sync and iSCSI traffic should be separated.

Re: Physical NICs

Let's calculate:

If block being transferred has size of 4kB, then 1Gb/8bit/4kB = 31250 maximum possible IOps;
If 64kB, then 1952 IOps.

you decide if this is OK
