Hi there, I just recently built my two nodes starwind system. I populated 8+1 drive Samsung Pro 850 1tb in Raid 6 with 1 drive hot spare. I know RAID 6 is not ideal, but I don't see that much of a performance improvement over at RAID 10, plus I need more spaces :) On the same node, I only have a 30T...
Hi there, I have two old starwind enclosures that I am going to upgrade. I am thinking putting in 1 x Intel x710, 4 Ports 10Gb to each server. 2 ports for direct connect sync, and 2 ports to iSCSI MPIO or 1 x iSCSI, 1x WAN. Basically I have two Areca 1680xl raid card that's powering 48 x 2TB SATA di...
Oh, I thought tiering is having both types of drives, like for data storage I can put it on SATA drives, and for VM OS, I can save the image on SSD drvies. From what you are saying, it is actually done thru caching, I suppose for L2 cache I can specified when I create the iSCSI target right ? Sorry,...
Hi there, We have been using Starwind for a while, we have all SATA 2TB drive setup right now in a 50 drives RAID60 unit. I am going to put in a quad-port 10Gb card, and I have 2 nodes, could someone tell me what's the best practice for me to setup this unit? I also want to do tiering, I am looking ...
Hi there, Got some upgrade questions/issues need some input on. Currently we have 2 nodes Starwind server, which I have a 4-ports NIC doing sync and iSCSI, and I am going to replace that NIC with either a 10gb 2-ports or IB 2-ports NIC.. 1. Need some thoughts on whether to go with IB or 10Gb setup 2...
On my Starwind 2-nodes, I have one pci-e slot left, which is occupied by Intel 4 ports gb nic. I am thinking about replacing it and put in a dual-port 10Gb nic. How do I go about migrating it to the 10Gb network ? This is what I have in mind. Shutdown the vm host. Replace nic card on both starwind h...
Yes, I remembered you guys told me it is not great, but I do not have a choice, and I am pretty sure there are customer out there that are doing it via switch as well. To make it simpler, I put the synch channel on a Cisco 2960 switch all by itself, and benchmark it, and speed was excellent. If my b...
I am experiencing the performance issue as soon as I attached my HAPartner, so when you are asking which datalink, it doesn't applied to me. Each datalink are benchmarked and result were all goods, as soon as I connect my HAPartner, my performance just dropped, that's what I want to figure out.
MS iSCSI initiator Yea, haven't you test out the HA setup at all ? Like you can lose one of the Starwind server and your server should still run, that's what an active HA setup is. If you didn't set up it that way, then you shouldn't disconnect it. Not sure if you can accomplish the same thing via f...
Your benchmark remind me of how mine was before.. You currently have two HA target mounted right ? HA and HAPartner. Can you do me a favor and drop the HAPartner iSCSI target connection completely, so only the HA iSCSI target is left. And do a benchmark with that, if it an improved benchmark, can yo...
